How can I be a successful host?
- Guide the conversation in the GoodTalk
- Tell Users how you want them to participate! This helps them feel more comfortable speaking up.
- Encourage new Users to participate in the conversation but recognize that not everyone may want to.
- Keep the conversation on track
- Try to stay on track as much as possible. If a speaker gets off-track, don’t be afraid to guide it back to where you want! Having clear transitions from one topic to the next can be useful as well.
- Address difficult situations
- Some topics or comments can be sensitive, controversial etc. When these topics arise, it is best to address them by going over the rules and expectations of the Chat and Goodself itself. Your Moderators can help you with this as well!
- Add your own style!
- There's no exact formula for a successful chat. Feel free to try different things to see what works for you! After all, each Expert will bring something unique to their GoodTalk.
- Encourage your community to join you on the Goodself app
- Leverage your social media followings on other apps such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, and/or other channels (Email, Facebook Group, Podcasts, Blogs, etc.) to promote/share your GoodTalks and build an audience on your talks. This will help you to foster ****a loyal following on the app and give followers unique access to information they may not receive from you on other platforms.
- Inviting others
- During and/or after your talk, let the audience know to invite others they feel would benefit or learn from your talks.
What can I do if there is a disruption or conflict in a room?
Although we aim to maintain a respectful and civil environment on all GoodTalks, we understand that conflict may occur. We ask that you continue to maintain a positive attitude and treat others with kindness during these circumstances. Here are some tips we suggest for our Experts to help avoid and resolve conflict on the platform:
- Announce your etiquette/rules at the beginning of your GoodTalk, and refer to them as needed throughout.
- Report and/or remove disruptive participants from the live chat.
- Invite only a limited number of participants to the “stage” to speak.
- Visit here for our Community Guidelines
What are some best practices for moderation?
- Set expectations for your live chat at the beginning, and as people join, give them a reminder about the expectations!
- Make use of the raise hand function to queue up questions.
- Address questions people write in during the talk.
- Don’t be afraid to address difficult situations – go over expectations, and, if necessary, remove the participant from the room if disruptive and/or goes against our Community guidelines.
- You can also report and/or block Users on the platform, if necessary, if disruptive and/or goes against our Community guidelines.
